Cost of examining a dog

Unlike humans, dogs cannot talk or fully explain what is bothering them; they use signs or gestures that can’t fully explain the exact problem and are sometimes misleading.

For a dog checkup or physical examination, the vet talks with the dog to get an idea of the problem.

The vet takes all the body parameters for every body system, e.g., temperature, heart rate, and breathing rate, examines the eyes, skin, ears, and lymph nodes, and checks for anemia and ectoparasites (ticks, fleas, and mites). The veterinarian records all the history given by the owner, e.g., food given, drugs used when the disease started, etc.

The vet will record all the abnormalities found per body system, and he or she will combine all the captured abnormalities to make a tentative diagnosis (the disease bothering your furry friend). If the abnormalities do not point to a particular disease, the vet will do other tests, e.g., blood tests, x-rays, ultrasounds, etc.

In this blog post, we delve into the details of dog checkups, signs that your dog needs a checkup, how to prepare your dog for a checkup, and the charges of a dog checkup.

How do I know if my dog needs a checkup?

Signs that your dog needs a checkup

Dogs are supposed to be routinely checked up; talk to your veterinarian for a schedule suitable for your dog. If you see any of these signs, rush to the nearest vet hospital for a checkup.

Lack of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, pain, isolation, weakness, swollen tummy, limping, unusual vocalization, swollen eyes, paralysis—never take any change of behavior for your dog lightly before seeking professional advice; it can be a sign of an illness.
