(9) basic needs of a dog.
Do dogs have basic needs? If yes, what are they?

Just like humans, dogs have essential needs they must have to live a long and happy life.

Stress, diseases, and neglect decrease the life span of your dog.

It’s advisable to fully assess your ability to own a dog before getting one. You might end up getting puppy blues.

Kindly answer these 21 questions to help you determine if you are ready to be a dog parent.

We list the nine basic needs a dog should have, irrespective of age, sex, breed, and origin.

The most essential needs of a dog are:
  1. Proper feeding: give your dog a balanced diet in the right quantity and time.
  1. Comfortable shelter; the house should protect the dog from harsh environmental conditions and be properly enriched to avoid stress and boredom.
  1. Routine veterinary care: do not wait for your dog to fall sick; make regular vet checkups for your dog to prevent or control any illnesses. Ensure routine and timely vaccination, deworming, ectoparasite control, and dental care.
  1. Regular exercises help dogs burn excessive calories, maintain a healthy body weight, reduce stress, and increase their lifespan.
  1. Socialization with other dogs: allow your dog to interact with other dogs to enable him to perform instincts he can’t perform with humans.
  1. Routine grooming or bathing: Keep the coat of your dog clean, healthy, and shiny.
  1. Training: Every dog should get basic obedience training for easy communication and healthy relationships with their human friends.
  1. Have a routine and stick to it; never surprise your dog with abrupt programs. Get a routine and follow it. e.g., feed time, time for exercises, time for sleep, etc.
  1. Always give a lot of TLC to your dog. Everybody wants to feel loved and cared for, and so do dogs.

Always practice trust, exercise, discipline, affection, and love for your dog 24/7.
