How do cats view humans?
Cats see humans as big, uncoordinated cats. But what matters most to them is the love and care you give them.
A typical day for your cat
A cat’s day is occupied with many activities, i.e., grooming, sleeping, hunting, playing, feeding, roaming, scratching, observing, etc. Sleeping is the most enjoyable activity for cats. Healthy adult cats sleep 12–16 hours per day; kittens, senior cats, and sick cats sleep more than 16 hours.
In this blog, we dive into the favorite activities that your cat loves to engage in throughout the day.
Sleeping
Healthy adult cats sleep 12–16 hours a day. Kittens, seniors, and sick cats sleep more than 16 hours daily. But most sleep is a light catnap cycle.
Grooming
Healthy cats spend 15–50% of their time grooming. It’s a morning routine they do immediately after waking up. They groom themselves, their babies, and their friends.
Feeding
Kittens aged 6 months and below are fed three times a day. Cats above 6 months are fed 2 times a day.
Cats love playing with their food, so provide food puzzles and toss kibbles for your cat to pounce on for mental stimulation.
Using litter box.
A healthy adult cat visits their litter box 2-4 times a day; if less or more than that, visit a nearby veterinarian.
Roaming, exploring, and climbing
Outdoor cats love to explore their surroundings to discover new things. However, it’s a risky behavior for urban cats or cats in a busy place. They get knocked on, stolen, beaten, or lost.
Get a tracking collar to trace the whereabouts of your cat.
Playing
Provide a lot of toys for your cats. Introduce different toys at different intervals to prevent boredom with the same toys. Without toys, cats will improvise with your staff as toys, e.g., they will climb and scratch your curtains and sofas and play with your spoons and forks in the cutlery.
Spend 4 minutes, 5 minutes, and 15 minutes of play sessions with your cat per day.
Scratching
It’s normal feline behavior for cats to scratch. Cats scratch to trim their nails, stretch their muscles, and relieve stress.
Provide vertical and horizontal scratch surfaces for your cat.
Observing
Cats like observing mostly from an elevated position, i.e., on top of the fridge, bookshelf, and cat tree.
Put the cat tree next to the window to allow your indoor cat to observe things outside. (cat tv)
Marking territory
Cats mark territories to demarcate areas under their control where no intruder cat should come.
They mark using scent glands located in their paws or spray urine.
Hunting
It’s an exciting activity for cats. Even well-fed outdoor cats hunt to find happiness. They hunt, capture their prey, and play with it until it is dead without eating it.
It is an instinct; capturing their prey is a reward for hunting, which gives confidence and fulfillment to your cat.
Unfed cats hunt to get food for survival.
Take-home tip
Cats do not like change when comfortable.
Visitors, new pets, changes in your routine, a change of food, a change of food bowl, a change of perfumes, etc. upset your cat and cause stress.
